About the event :Social and environmental entrepreneurs are invited to the submit applications for initiatives on sustainable development for the SEED Awards 2011. Applicants are eligible to apply if their business, enterprise or start-up’s initiative:

• demonstrates entrepreneurship and innovation
• delivers economic, social and environmental benefits
• has the intention and potential to become financially sustainable
• is a partnership between different stakeholder groups
• is locally driven or locally led
• has potential for scale up or significant replication
• is in the early stages of implementation
• is in a country with a developing or emerging economy

Recognizing women leaders and gender equality as critical to sustainable development, UN Women has partnered with the SEED Initiative this year and will support the 2011/2012 award cycle by sponsoring a 2011 SEED Gender Equality Award. This Award will support a women-led or owned initiative that prioritizes gender equality and/or women’s empowerment as a core objective to their sustainable development enterprise. UN Women and the SEED Initiative are also working together to mainstream gender equality dimensions in the overall SEED programme.Read more »
